The Proposal, April 2009

We became engaged in April 2009. Although it wasn't a total surprise because we had discussed marriage, the day of the proposal was still a surprise. Chris planned a picnic in Bellefonte at a nice park very near the restaurant where we had our first date. After the picnic, Chris said "I've got something I want to talk to you about." I immediately knew what he was going to say! He then gave me the ring. It was very moving and meaningful! The next few days were a rush of telling people and starting the wedding planning.

The Grad School Years

We dated throughout the remainder of our graduate school years. Chris graduated with his Ph.D. in sociology in May 2008. I received my Ph.D. in counseling psychology in August 2008. Having a partner in graduate school made the experience much more enjoyable. The support through some tough experiences made a world of difference! We are now Dr. Scheitle and Dr. Platt!

Upon graduation we moved in together in Huntingdon, PA in August 2008. I accepted a visiting assistant professor position at Juniata College and Chris is completing a post-doc at Penn State. One fun part about moving in together was introducing our cats, Callie and Jupiter. They are now mostly friends, minus some sibling rivalry.

We are getting married!

Hello! We decided to start a blog about our upcoming wedding in order to stay in touch with everyone.

To start, let me tell you a little more about the two of us.

We met in August 2004 at a John Kerry rally. I was looking to meet new people in State College and Chris went to the event because a friend of his had organized it. We had both just finished our first year of graduate school at Penn State University. We got to talking at the event and later exchanged email addresses.

After emailing back and forth for awhile, we went on a lunch date. We had a nice time on this date, so we decided to have a dinner date later that week. The dinner date was to a nice restaurant in Bellefonte, PA. Again, we had a nice time and eventually went on another date to get Myer Dairy ice cream. The rest is history as they say.
